Additive Manufacturing: industry necessities and research solutions
14:00 – 16:00 JUNE 14, 2019
Additive manufacturing can revolutionize various branches of engineering by completely changing the way industrial parts are produced. With engineering software that can automatically design the shape of parts in order to provide maximum efficiency in withstanding mechanical solicitations, shapes are no longer constricted. Due to their complicate design, these parts are near impossible to produce by subtractive manufacturing and the only alternative is additive manufacturing. Industrials are aware of its long-term benefits and embraced it for solving current technological set-backs. The workshop organizers from Center for Advanced Laser Technologies (CETAL), the newest research facility of the National Institute for Lasers, Plasma and Radiation Physics (INFLPR), are actively involved in working with various companies in Romania in the framework of a POC-G Project (Partnership for knowledge transfer) devoted to cladding and 3D printing of metal parts for reconstruction, repair and protection of machine parts.
The workshop would be a unique opportunity to gather for the first time at a round table the main representatives at national level in this field from both research and industry. The workshop will consist of a first part with short presentations of the expertise and research of Laboratories in additive manufacturing and of companies interested in developing additive manufacturing branches / technological transfer of additive manufacturing technologies. The second part will be devoted to open discussions related to industry needs, technologies shortcomings to be resolved, exchange of ideas on development of additive manufacturing techniques, funding of industrial research and technological transfer.
