Marco Sebastiani received a Ph.D. in mechanical and industrial engineering in 2008 from Roma TRE University, working on the design, production and characterisation of novel nanostructured and multi-layered coatings for advanced mechanical applications.
He is currently a tenured assistant professor of Materials Science at “Roma TRE” university, where he is also a lecturer of materials science and technology for aeronautical engineering.
Currently, his major research efforts are in the fields of surface engineering, micro-device development, thin films and small-scale mechanical behaviour, with specific focus on:
Micron-scale residual stress analysis by a focused ion beam (FIB) approach.
Nano-mechanical characterization of advanced materials and devices by the use of nanoindentation testing
Nanostructured thin film modelling and production by Physical vapour Deposition (PVD) processes.
He is editor of the international peer reviewed journal Materials & Design (IF 4.52), reviewer for a wide range of international journals, and participant in European and national R&D projects (among which, the role of coordinator of the FP7 large collaborative project iSTRESS, www.istress.eu , and role of coordinator of the large collaborative project H2020 OYSTER, www.oyster-project.eu ).
Since 2014, he is actively involved in the most important European actions for promoting the access to advanced materials characterization tools for the manufacturing industry. In particular, he is member of the Operational Management Board at the European Materials Characterization Council (EMCC).
He is co-author of more than 80 papers on ISI journals, with over 1500 citations and an h-index of 22.
