Iuliana Popescu is scientist and group leader at Barnstable Brown Diabetes & Obesity Research Center, Lexington KY, USA and the President of the Association for Women In Science (AWIS) KY Affiliate Group since October 2018. Her background is in pharmaceutical sciences, supplemented with solid expertise in the pharma industry and regulatory affairs. She holds a MS in Biophysics & Cellular Biotechnology and a PhD in Molecular Pharmacology of Nuclear Receptors from the University of Lille Nord de France (2009). She has continuous extended experience in basic academic research and teaching as a postdoctoral scholar and research associate at the European Genomic Institute for Diabetes (EGID), INSERM (France), Université Libre de Bruxelles ULB (Belgium) and University of Kentucky (USA). Her research interests are focused on endocrine pancreas regeneration in diabetes, islet transplantation and pharmacological targeting of islet cells using innovative technologies and molecules, including nano-encapsulation and nano-carriers for therapeutic peptide delivery and beta-cell mass imaging.
